Parent Workshop on Social Skills (Apr 30th)

Dr. Sanjay Patel, Comprehensive Mental Health Services -
If you feel bad when your child has no one to play with, outraged when other kids tease and pick on her, or helpless when school calls and tells you he has been fighting, you are not alone. Dr. Sanjay Patel, Clinical Psychologist, Comprehensive Mental Health Services in Pennington, NJ, where individual, group, and family counseling are available presented an informative workshop for ASK. Dr. Patel discussed how to better understand and measure your child's social skills. Dr. Patel believes that social skills are the most important factor in academic performance.  The doctor provided an interactive workshop on identifying social skills problems and improving social skills in children with and without disabilities.

Understanding AD/HD (Mar 14th)

AD/HD refers to a family of related chronic neurobiological disorders that interfere with one’s capacity to regulate activity level (hyperactivity), inhibit behavior (impulsivity), and attend to tasks (inattention) in develop-mentally appropriate ways. Children with AD/HD can and do succeed when adults who work with them understand that their behaviors respond to instruction and positive intervention. The topic was presented by
Jane Milrod-Jemas of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.) Please check back here soon for the notes from this meeting.
